Chemical-Free Sunscreen for Rosacea

The right sunscreen depends on your skin. You must have a strong SPF that offers broad-spectrum protection. When you have rosacea, sunscreen containing chemicals often irritate the skin condition. This rules out using well-known chemical sunscreens like Coppertone. Studies have also found that chemical sunscreens damage reefs. Hawaii banned the use of chemical sunscreens for this reason.

The alternative to chemical sunscreen is mineral sunscreen. These products offer protection against UVA and UVB rays using minerals like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Block Island Organics makes a sunscreen that is also a face moisturizer. It's a product that I found protects well, and you definitely feel where you've applied it, so you get the right coverage.

My Experience Using Block Island Sun Care

This is a very thick, clingy sunscreen. It was a bit oilier than other product I've tried. In the summer, my skin can be a little more oily, so I wasn't sure this would be the right product for me after a couple days of using it. Sure enough, pimples started to form. It's a shame because it did cover well. Plus, I find that sunscreens with zinc oxide offer the best protection I've come across.

This does offer broad-spectrum protection, which is vital when you spend time in the sun. A sunscreen that doesn't protect against UVA and UVB rays isn't worth your time.

My feet and hands tend to be the driest areas on my body. I started trying Block Island on those areas and my skin is smoother and looks less dry. I'm certain that come winter when my rosacea becomes dry and even cracks that this sunscreen will be ideal. If you have skin ranging in the normal to dry area, this sunscreen will do a fantastic job and making your skin look fresh and radiant.

With rosacea, skin cancer can be more of a risk. People with rosacea tend to have pale skin. That ups your risk of skin cancer. You need to apply sunscreen on cloudy days, sunny days, and even in the winter. I use moisturizers with sunscreen year-round. You should, too.
